CUSTOM CAPABILITIES
O. Henry House works closely with Interior Designers and Architects to realize their custom furniture designs. Each hand crafted piece of furniture is made-to-order. This provides the flexibility to produce from the most complex of unique designs to the ease of customizing standard O. Henry House designs.
PROCESS
Our construction process is unmatched in its attention to detail. Each piece is inspected at every production stage and must pass the “sit test” before it leaves our workroom. Our obsession with quality, understanding of design and recognition that none of it matters if the piece is not comfortable distinguishes us in the industry.
FRAMES
Frames are bench-made in our factory from northern kiln-dried Maple with reinforced corner blocks and double doweled for strength and stability. Our frames are built to last for generations.
EIGHT-WAY HAND TIED SPRINGS
Each piece of furniture incorporates eight-way hand tied springs in the seat. Specific, varying gauge coil springs are used in each piece to ensure the correct sit and are hand-tied together with coated twine in eight different directions.
FABRIC & LEATHER
Customer’s Own Material or Leather (COM/COL) is used to further realize the Designer’s vision for their unique piece and its integral place in their design. Upon receipt, fabric and leather is inspected and measured. Delicate fabrics such as velvet and mohair are suspended to avoid damage. It is cut by hand and pattern matched uniquely for each piece of furniture. Fabric is sewn carefully and impeccably with careful attention to fabric type and characteristics.
UPHOLSTERY
Sturdy webbing is interwoven on the base of every piece of furniture and steel zig-zag springs are incorporated into the backs. Legs on all skirted pieces are upholstered and every piece is self-decked. Encased coil Marshall Units are used on all tight back pieces and larger arms. Tufted pieces are hand tufted creating a beautiful and soft tailored finished product.
OUTSIDING
Final detail trim, nail head and welts are applied with care once the piece has been upholstered. Skirts are lined and hand sewn.
CUSHIONS
Standard seats are Spring Down with Ultracell. These are hand constructed of a Marshall Unit encased in high density Ultracell foam that is inserted into a channeled envelope of down and feather. Standard backs are 10/90 down and feather. Upgraded cushion options include 25/75 down and feather and 50/50 white goose down, the ultimate plush cushioning.
INSPECTION
Upon completion each piece is meticulously inspected to ensure it matches the customer’s specifications exactly, and finally, must pass our “sit test.” For safe shipping and delivery, all legs are individually wrapped, and the piece is placed on a protective foam cushion within a cardboard tray. Soft, durable sheets of tissue are carefully wrapped around the piece before it is shrink-wrapped onto the tray and final carton is placed on top. All of this ensures the greatest protection for the piece during shipment.
